What cookies are
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. Similar technologies, such as local storage and pixels, work in the same way. We call them all “cookies” here.
The cookies we use
| Category | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Necessary | Remembers your cookie choice, keeps the Site secure and working, and stores your light/dark display choice. | Always on |
| Functional | Remembers preferences so the Site works the way you like. | Off until you accept |
| Analytics | Google Analytics (via Google Site Kit) shows us which guides are read, so we can improve them. Data is aggregated. | Off until you accept |
| Performance | Helps us measure speed and fix technical problems. | Off until you accept |
| Advertising | Used by ad partners such as Google AdSense, if ads are shown, to show relevant ads and measure them. | Off until you accept |
Managing your choices
- Use the cookie settings button on the Site to accept, reject or customise categories. You can change your choice whenever you like.
- Your browser lets you block or delete cookies. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the Site from working.
- For Google’s own controls, visit your Google account’s ad settings, or install Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
How long cookies last
Session cookies disappear when you close your browser. Persistent cookies last from a few days up to about 13 months, depending on the cookie. Your consent choice is stored for up to 12 months, after which we ask again.
